Middle East Broadcasting Networks Inc press release, 8 June 2007. "Register's letter of resignation, dated Friday, said he had been 'professionally and personally attacked' in the media. 'In good conscience I cannot allow the personal vendettas and attacks to damage the credibility of MBN,' he wrote."

The promised review of this episode must still take place, but now it should expand to consider the conduct of the Broadcasting Board of Governors. Did the BBG eliminate a renegade Arabist? Or did it decide the Alhurra news director must speak Arabic? Or did the BBG buckle to political pressure and abdicate, again, its most important function as firewall between U.S. international broadcasting and the U.S. government?
